In today's hectic lifestyle and tiring work hours, shoulder and neck pain have become increasingly common. And you cannot run to the doctor every time you have shoulder pain. So what can you do? Shoulder pain can be caused by any one of several reasons. But once the pain starts it becomes exhausting to focus on anything else.

Shoulder pain can happen to anyone at any age. However, people who spend more time on laptops, tablets and smartphones are more prone to shoulder pain. But the good news is that you can easily get rid of shoulder pain by adopting some home remedies.

1.     Cold water

To get rid of shoulder pain, you should soak it in cold water. This method is very beneficial for relieving pain. Put ice cubes in a plastic bag, wrap the bag in a towel and keep it on your shoulder for 10 to 15 minutes. Do this several times a day and regularly for a few days. You can also do this by soaking a towel in cold water. Keep in mind, do not apply ice directly on the place of pain.

2.     Hot compress

Just like the cold water, hot compress also gives relief from shoulder pain and swelling. If you have a shoulder injury, then you should use hot compress after 24 hours. This will relieve muscle tension. Fill a bag with warm water and apply it on the shoulder for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this process several times a day and regularly for a few days until the pain is relieved.

3.     Apply pressure

Apply pressure on the shoulder to reduce swelling. An elastic band or a cloth bandage can be used to put pressure on the shoulder. Tie a bandage on the place of pain until the swelling and the pain subsides. Apart from this, the shoulder can also be supported with the help of pillows. Be careful not to tie the bandage too tight.

4.     Take a bath with rock salt

Bathing in rock salt water will give relief from shoulder pain. This will also relieve muscle tension and increase blood circulation. Along with this, the body starts to relax. Fill the bathtub with lukewarm water. Mix 2 teaspoons of rock salt in it. Keep the shoulder immersed in this water for 20 to 25 minutes. Repeat three times a week.

5.     Eat nutritious meals

Many times pain in the shoulder starts due to weakness of the muscles. In such a situation, it is important to eat protein rich meals and take supplements of calcium and other vitamins.

6.     Rest

Many people keep working continuously even when they are in pain. This just makes the situation worse. Whenever you are in pain, it is important to take rest. Rest will give relief to the body which will eventually lead to pain relief.

7.     Stop smoking

If you smoke, stop doing it. When you stop smoking, there will be better circulation of blood in the body which is needed for pain relief.
